Sciatica

Q: Any tips on poses to help sciatic pain?

A: Sciatica refers to pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg. It is caused by injury to, or pressure on, the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is often caused by stress, which causes the nerves to be oxygen deprived. We recommend the So Long Sciatica segment on our Yoga Quick Fixes DVD. Included in that segment is Shoulder Stand, with the legs wide, doing Breath of Fire, for 3 min. Other anti-sciatica measures are cutting down on sugar, coffee, meat, etc. which create a acidic (constricting) condition in the body. We also recommend Fire Log Pose and the rest of our Yoga for Beginners & Beyond: Stretch Strengthen, Be Stress Free DVD. The Rag Doll exercise, which is in many of our warm-up sets, is a great one as well. Try not to sit for long periods. Get up and move around at intervals.

We wish you joy, health, and abundant blessings!
