Hiccups

Hiccups refer to the involuntary contractions in the diaphragm muscles. The nerves of the diaphragm become irritated which makes the breath irregular and that produces hiccups. The exact cause of hiccups isn't known but the logical suspects are: Eating too much and too fast, sudden excitement, hot and spicy foods, stomach disorders, kidney problems, an infection in the lungs

Holding the breath or taking some deep breaths can stop hiccups.

Drinking water frequently in short durations is also helpful.
A common folk remedy is to eat a spoonful of peanut butter
Sucking small piece of ginger can also cure recurring hiccups.
