Anemia

Anemia is a condition in which the body is oxygen deprived. It is important to increase your red blood cell count (hemoglobin) so that more oxygen can be distributed throughout the body. In cases of chronic anemia an iron supplement is essential. We prefer a more natural iron
supplement such as liquid Floravital which I take a few days per month. The iron supplements most often recommended can cause problems such as constipation and stomach distress if taken long term. But. of course, check with your doctor first before switching.

All of Kundalini Yoga, especially the breathing, can help the body absorb more oxygen by stimulating red blood cell production, improving circulation, and carrying the oxygen around the body to where it is needed. We especially recommend our Yoga For Beginners & Beyond: Stretch, Strengthen, & Be Stress Free as well as our AM/PM Yoga.

Yoga Bhajan suggested a couple of figs per day for anemia. Other great foods for building iron rich blood are filbert nuts, lentils as well as most beans, chickpeas, watermelon seeds, apples.

Black tea and coffee which can interfere with iron absorption should be avoided. A good way to start the day is with hot water and lemon juice or apple cider vinegar. You can sweeten this with honey or agave.

Vitamin C helps with iron absorption. We love Radiance C which is a natural for of C from Camu

An excelent traditional remedy for Anemia is this tea:
2 tsp beet root,
2 tsp nettle leaves
2 tsp rehmania root

bring to a boil in 3 cups of water. Simmer for 5 minutes and turn off heat. Let steep for 15-20 minutes and strain. Drink remaining liquid 2x a day.nettle leaves and rehmannia root can be brought to a boil in three cups of water. Simmer for 5 minutes and turn off the flame. Allow to steep for about twenty minutes and strain the herbs. The resulting
liquid can be consumed twice a day.
